India can be No. 1 market in coming years: Facebook

 

Popular social networking site Facebook expect India to become its No 1 market in terms of number of users, leaving the US and Indonesia.


Facebook claims to have over 800 million active users globally.


"We are confident that in the coming years, India will be our leading


market...Currently, it is at No 3 in terms of number of users. Last announced number was 30 million for India and 45 million for Indonesia. I'm sure India will be No 1 in the coming years," Facebook Vice President (Mobile and Corporate Development) Vaughan Smith said here.


Companies across sectors like FMCG, retail and hospitality are using Facebook to reach customers, promote products and gauge market perception through the social media
platform.


Smith added that more than half of these users in India are believed to be accessing the website from their mobile devices.


According to the company website, more than 350 million active users currently access Facebook through their mobile devices and more than 475 mobile operators globally work to deploy and promote Facebook mobile products.


Facebook today announced a global tie-up with mobile phone chip maker Mediatek, through which the application would be embedded on low cost handsets, enabling users to access the website through a single icon.


"As people become mobile and are on the go, they want to communicate with their friends, share information and that we think will drive the need for devices. We want to create a fast and engaging experience for users even on devices costing below say USD 50 (Rs 2,500), the idea is to have more users on board," Smith said.

Change the APPID on the code with your APP ID provided from Facebook and save the template.

Facebook ‘leaked’ Users Data........

US computer security firm Symantec on Tuesday said that Facebook accidentally left a door open for advertisers to access profiles, pictures, chat and other private data at the social network.

Symantec discovered that certain Facebook applications leaked tokens that act essentially as "spare keys" for accessing profiles, reading messages, posting to walls or other actions.

Facebook applications are Web software programs that are integrated onto the leading online social network’s platform.

Symantec said that 20 million Facebook applications such as games are installed every day.

The tokens were being leaked to third-party applications including advertisers and analytics platforms allowing them to post messages or mine personal information from profiles, according to Nishant Doshi of Symantec.

"Fortunately, these third-parties may not have realized their ability to access this information," Doshi said in a blog post.

"We have reported this issue to Facebook, who has taken corrective action to help eliminate this issue."

Symantec estimated that as of April, nearly 100,000 applications were giving away keys to Facebook profiles.

"We estimate that over the years, hundreds of thousands of applications may have inadvertently leaked millions of access tokens to third parties," Doshi said.

Facebook confirmed the problem, which was discovered by Doshi and Symantec colleague Candid Wueest, according to the computer security firm.

There was no reliable estimate of how many tokens have been leaked since the release of Facebook applications in 2007.

Despite whatever fix Facebook has put in place, token data may still be stored in files on third-party computers, Symantec warned.

"Concerned Facebook users can change their Facebook passwords to invalidate leaked access tokens," Doshi said.

"Changing the password invalidates these tokens and is equivalent to ’changing the lock’ on your Facebook profile."(ANI)
