Infosys Paper (for Freshers)

Test Venue: Punjabi University, Patiala
Eligibility Criteria: 60% in 10th and 12th
65% in Graduation
(Friends be careful about the eligibility criteria, Infosys people are very strict and specific about it (like even 64.999 % is not at all acceptable ))
The placement process started at about 9:00 am.
First of all they would give a sheet to collect general information about you. Be sure to have 2 passport size photographs with you. Then after filling of the form the OMR sheet is distributed. You have to encircle the option and write the option in box.
9:30 am.
Aptitude paper was distributed. It was an easy paper 30 questions 40 minutes. Be sure to touch the mark of 18 correct. Though 18 questions is the upper limit, but I think I got just 15 questions correct. Infy people don’t tell the cut offs. But its good to be on the safe side, by getting minimum 18 questions correct.
First five questions on visual reasoning (very easy).
Next five questions on Data interpretation (Very difficult set)
I don’t remember the exact set and values, but set was as such
A company produces maruti 800 and maruti zen. There are 3 spray painters, two car makers and 1 quality checker. They work 10 hours a day. It takes 25 mins to spray paint, 15 mins to make car and 20 mins quality check of maruti 800 by a single person and 30, 15, 45 mins for maruti zen respectively
1) What is the maximum number of maruti 800 that can be built in 24 hours?
2) What is the maximum number of maruti zen that can be built in 24 hours?
Three more questions I don’t remember.
5 questions on Data sufficiency.
Each problem consists of a problem followed by two statements. Decide whether the data in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Select your answer according to whether:
(A) Any one statement alone is sufficient to answer
(B) both statements taken together are sufficient to answer the question, but neither statement alone is sufficient
(c) each statement alone is sufficient
(D) statements 1 and 2 together are not sufficient, and additional data is needed to answer the question

Statement 1 a:b=2:3
Statement 2 b:c=4:5
2) What is the average of 10 students?
Statement 1 The average age of six youngest students is 10 years.
Statement 2 The average age of four youngest students is 5 years.
3) The distance travelled varies directly as the square of the time taken. What is the distance travelled in 10th second?
Statement 1 Distance travelled in 5 seconds is 124 m
Statement 2 Distance travelled in 10 seconds is 567 m.
4) What is the total amount deposited in 5 accounts?
Statement 1 The average deposit of 5 accounts is Rs 500.
Statement 2 The highest and lowest amount of money in an account is 100 and 200.
5) A vessel is 50% full and another is 60% full. Which vessel has a larger capacity.
Statement 1 Vessel A gets empty to make 5/6 of vessel B full.
Statement 2 50% of water from vessel A accounts for 2/3 of vessel B.
Another set on Data interpretation ( 5 questions very easy)
(Be careful, I got my calculations wrong and ruined it)
5 questions on a puzzle P,Q,R,S,T,U,V six perons in a family, two married coupleas. They are in different profession like Engineer, Doctor, Teacher etc etc. (Very easy)
5 questions on syllogisms (Very easy)
Don’t do any puzzles of Shakuntla devi and all, not required. No maths questions. Purely logical reasoning paper.

Collected L R question paper, distributed English paper (40 questions, 35 mins)
Very Very Difficult
Even students who had prepared for CAT found the English to be on a tougher side (Tougher that CAT 2010 english paper)
10 questions on Identify the errors (Very Difficult)
10 questions on correcting underlind sentences ( Moderte to very difficult)
5 questions on fill in the blanks (Not like appeared in previous papers)
They were actually complete the sentence (Very Difficult)
5 questions (moderate difficult)
3 questions on read the pagaraph and find inference.
2 questions on read the paragraph and deduce the answer.
Passage 1 (5 questions) (Difficult)
Passage 2 (5 questions) (Easy, not very lengthy)
4:00 pm (Candidates shortlisted for interview)
Cut offs (50% in Aptitude, 45 % in English) (According to me) Once you are shortlisted, believe me there are very less chances of you being rejected, until and unless you completely ruin your interview yourself)
6:30 my Interview
Me: May I come in, sir.
HR: Yes, Please.
HR: Was an aged person, but very nice otherwise.
HR: Okay! Kapil, show me your resume.(Shown)
HR: Why there is a gap in your education?
Me: Told
HR: What is the project you have done ?
Me: Told
Another person enters the room
HR2: (Saw my resume). How did you do marketing in your college fest and what was your role?
Me: Told.
Interview ran for about 10 mins. In interview if your a Computer Science student, they will ask about your project, and one general question based on your resume. They just check your confidence and your communication skills. For, other streams they ask just general questions on resume. Believe me they are not there to reject you in interview round. They make three lists, fully accepted, fully rejected, and people to be given another chance. People in the third list was again called for an interview.
12:00 am. (In the middle of the cold night)
Infosys head of HR department comes and start making announcements
Total candidates: 450
Cleared written round: 320
Cleared Interview: 293
The people who were rejected in there interview were give main reason as a strong MTI (Mother Tongue Impact). Please for heaven’s sake, for your own sake speak a presentable English, you need not be a super English teacher. And, guess what I got selected.
